Rab has added an update to the MeCo baselayer line with a 120-weight top as well as boxer style underwear for both men and women. The 120-weight only comes in a top as the thickness was a little cumbersome for a thermal bottom. The underwear come in Rab's thinnest weight and offer the same flat-lock seams as the other items in the MeCo line. Also coming out, they have waterproof, synthetic outer jackets perfect for those wet summit days, or when caught out in a cold rain. The jackets feature a stow pocket, helmet compatible hood and Napoleon zip pockets.
Building on the success of the NeoAir, Therm-a-Rest has expanded to include the XLite and the XTherm. The lineup starts with the original NeoAir which contains one sheet of reflective material, the XLite has two layers and the regular weighs in at 12 oz with an R-value 3.2, the All-Season contains three layers while the XTherm contains a whopping four layers and is their warmest NeoAir product in the lineup. The XTherm regular weighs in at 15 oz with an R-value of 5.7. Warmth combined with 2.5 inches of air mattress comfort all in a light weight package, who could ask for more. Ok ultralighter's could but lets not go there.
Sea to Summit has update their Delta line to include a lid with their Delta bowl. The lid is a great addition for keeping food warm on cold nights and to prevent occasional tips while the bowl is being placed down or picked up. If you like to cook in the bowl, this will help keep the heat in longer and will make it easier to wrap in a cozy.
Montbell has been making great down products that just continue to get even better. For anyone who has coveted their products, the price can be a bit of a barrier especially for someone relatively new to backpacking and hiking. Montbell has an entry level down jacket made with a lower fill power down and slightly heavier material but still having all the great features Montbell is known for. So for a little sacrifice in weight, you get a great down jacket for a great price point. Also new to Montbell is the Versalite jacket and pants. They are waterproof/breathable while weighing in at 6.7 oz for the jacket and 3.6 oz for the pants (weights for men's medium).
While Vapur is not a new company, they are new to offering their collapsible soft bottle to the active world. The soft sided bottle has a flat bottom helping the bottle stand up on flat surfaces. Their Super Cap makes it easy to suck down water quickly while on the go. And when the bottle is empty, it rolls up and stashes easily in a small pouch or pocket.
If you haven't seen Columbia's Omni-Heat, it is a layer of reflective dots on the inside material. Tudors reflect back your own body heat helping keep you warmer, longer. The Omni-Heat technology is now being featured in more than just clothing. Look for it in their sleeping bags and even their footwear.
