New York and the Heat

NJ-NY BorderThe heat here has been very high and oppressive.  So much so that I actually came down with heat exhaustion and had to spend a few days out in New York City, NY in order to recover while my husband hiked on.  In that time I got my trail name, now I'm Blueberry.  While I was off, turns out my husband acquired his own trail name and is now Bear Claw.

NY AT Rail StationThe trail through New York has been rugged but the high heat, which has been making national news, is really dragging everyone down.  The views have been quite nice but the water situation is even worse than Pennsylvania.  In Pennsylvania it was possible to walk down to a spring.  In New York, no such luck.  There just isn't any water, or it is very scarce with long walks between sources.  New York is the only state with its own rail station.  It is possible on weekends to catch the train into New York City.  From the city it is supposedly possible to ask the conductor to stop at the station but I didn't try.  Instead I got off in Pawling and walked back to the trail head.
