The Mountainsmith Bike Cube can hold up to 56 L, or 3417 cubic inches, of gear. The Bike Cube has three zippered main compartments. The back and middle compartments have coated mesh strips (two on each compartment) at the top to allow for ventilation. The back compartment has two mesh pockets. Theses pockets are ideal for storing a bicycle helmet and bike shoes. Even with a helmet and shoes there’s still plenty of storage space in the compartment for other gear. The middle compartment has only a small fleece-lined zippered pocket (for storing sunglasses) hanging from the top but otherwise has no pockets. The middle compartment is spacious and has lots of room. The front compartment has a bike tool organizer panel and makes a great bike tool workstation. On one panel there are three small mesh pockets, six stretch-webbing straps of various sizes and four pockets. In the same compartment on the opposite panel are two large mesh pockets.  

 

 

The Bike Cube has a wrapped handle making it easy to carry. There are also D-ring attachment points where an optional shoulder strap can be purchased and attached if the user prefers. The Bike Cube is made of 150D rip-stop body fabric so you don’t have to worry about it standing up to some abuse. Expanded the Bike Cube is 15'' x 15'' x 15'' (38 x 38 x 38 cm) and can fit into all of Mountainsmith’s Modular Hauling Systems but will take up the space of two cubes in these systems.

 

The three compartments really come in handy for staying organized. In the middle one I keep my bike shorts, jersey, sunglasses, jacket and towel. Pretty much any larger item that needs to be washed on a regular basis. After laundry is done I just put those items back in the middle pocket and they are there when I need them. The bike tool organizer is a dream come true. I unzip the panel and everything is easy to find and reach. Multi tools, tire levers, wrenches, torx keys, goo, lube, spare tubes, you name the bike tool and there’s a place for it in the tool organizer. It, of course is not limited to tools. I’ve also found I can keep a sports bottle upright in either one of the mesh pockets or secured under the stretch webbing. I also find my gloves are about the perfect fit for the smaller mesh pockets. The back compartment usually holds my bike shoes and helmet in the mesh pockets and typically is the place where my regular shoes end up while I’m off riding.

 

I do wish the Bike Cube came with the shoulder strap. The Bike Cube is designed for it with D-clips on the side to accommodate one but the strap must be purchased separately. The Bike Cube comes with a wrapped handle which works fine but I would prefer the shoulder strap for transporting the system. Using the shoulder strap would leave me hands free to push my bike with both hands while still hauling my gear in the Bike Cube.

 

Whether heading to an event or a park and ride the Mountainsmith Bike Cube is my ‘go to’ bag anytime I head out for a ride. The Bike Cube is tough, durable and holds all my gear while helping me stay organized. A lot of storage space, well thought out layout and an abundance of pockets makes the Mountainsmith Bike Cube the ideal hauler.
