There are countless choices for everyday footwear but most do not fit my definition of everyday. I need something that fits my feet comfortably, can work at the office, around town and even short hikes. The Cushe Xsige-WP is a slip on sneaker that is great for my everyday needs. The Xsige is part of Cushe’s Universal Traveller line which is designed for apres-outdoor sports and in transit.
The Cushe Xsige have a quick lace system that involves bungee laces with a cinch cord that when tightened wraps the upper shoe around your foot. Putting them on is faster and easier than traditional laces but still maintains support and a secure fit. The Cushe Xsige has a waterproof leather upper which keeps feet dry when on wet terrain. The midsole is shock absorbing molded phylon EVA which means it’s lightweight and responsive to the user’s feet. The outsole on the Xsige is very unique. The grips on the soles have small triangular knobs that look like gravel. The pattern on the molded Vibram sole is anatomically correct with knobs grouped together in circular patterns where the toes are and similar patterns on the ball and heel of the shoes. Combine all these elements together and you get a shoe that is constructed to keep your feet stable and protected in the outdoors.
I like the way the Cushe Xsige look. I think the Xsige are the right balance of performance, comfort and fashion. This is something I could wear to the office and the footwear would not look out of place. They definitely do not scream ‘look at my shoes’ which is the way I prefer it. Wearing them around town they look and feel like casual footwear. The Xsige are just as at home on the trail as well. I have confidence in taking them outside of the urban jungle and are comfortable in most any situation.
The tread grips slick surfaces pretty well. This is probably due to the fact that dirt and mud do not easily stick in the tread and it is easy to clean. The Xsige also come with a kick plate feature which allows me to take them off without having to use my hands. This is a nice feature that I appreciate after as I don’t have to get my hands dirty or wet no matter what I’ve been walking in. The Xsige’s break in period is short, only after about a day of wear and they fit my feet really well. They are definitely one of the most comfortable shoes I have worn. The Xsige are flexible and are great for walking and casual hiking through sandy, grassy, muddy, and rocky terrain. I would not wear them for hard-core hiking off trail but then again they were not designed for that.
The only thing I don’t like on the Xsige are the elastic cord laces. They are a little too long when cinched up and tend to catch and snag on things unless weaved in and out of the laces. Maybe I am using them wrong? I don't know. The cords also have lost some of their stretch. They have not broken though and overall this is just a minor complaint.
The Cushe Xisge are a great all around shoe to help me get around my everyday universe whether it’s the urban safari or hiking trail. The Cushe Xsige offer comfort, performance and fashion for everyday use. With Cushe Xsige you might find that your now Cushe feet can keep up with you on your adventures no matter how Cushe or non-cushy they are.
